Did you know that the Cannes Film Festival is not just about films in competition and glamorous red carpet photos with stars? Cannes Cinefondation, created to inspire and support the next generation of international filmmakers, consists of residency in Paris for young directors, a project market called Atelier, as well as a program of shorts from student filmmakers during the festival. Cannes Cinefondation’s General Manager Georges Goldenstern shall discuss the programs at Cannes Cinefondation, its relevance to Southeast Asian filmmakers, and some of the projects selected from our region.

Hong Kong International Film Festival’s Executive Director Albert Lee was a producer of major directors such as China’s Jiang Wen (THE SUN ALSO RISES), whose works have been in Cannes, Berlin and Venice competition, as well as action director Dante Lam (BEAST STALKER), whose films were also selected at festivals such as Berlin. How is it to produce such filmmakers, and how is it to transition to the world of festivals? Lee shall also discuss the various platforms at Hong Kong International Film Festival, from their competition sections as well as Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum.

Locarno Open Doors returns this year to Southeast Asia with a 3-year focus on our region. This has already resulted in a huge delegation of Southeast Asian filmmakers attending Locarno this year, with SEAFIC filmmakers winner major awards. Guillaume Mainguet, Head of Produire au Sud, shall discuss with Sophie Bourdon, Head of Locarno Open Doors, about the program’s mission, how they choose projects and filmmakers, and the differences between each of their programs.
