Vannaphone Sitthirath is a Vientiane-based journalist and filmmaker. In 1999, she studied at the Queensland School of Film and TV Production in Brisbane, Australia. Vannaphone has written stories on environmental and social issues that have been published by Inter Press Service Asia Pacific. In 2011, she co-founded ‘Lao New Wave Cinema Productions’ and produced the company’s first feature film AT THE HORIZON. She continues to produce both short and feature films such as an NHK-support short documentary, BECAUSE I AM A GIRL…, EXPIRATION DATE, RAISING A BEAST, and THE RED MEKONG. The two latter ones were selected to take part in Open Doors Hub and Lab in 2019. Raising a Beast is also selected for Open Door Lab 2020.
